ONE ROASTER CHICKEN,......cut up by butcher into smallest
possible chunks[INCLUDING ALL SKIN, BONES AND FAT !] ONE CUP GROUND UP FERRET KIBBLE OR QUALITY CAT KIBBLE(I ground mine in a coffee grinder) 3-4 EGGSHELLS,......crunched up best you can (these never crunch
up very well) 3 Tablespoon oatmeal......(I use regular, but I don't think it
matters if it's quick cooking) the original recipe calls for 2 Tblsp., but my vet told me to
use 3 for extra fiber. 1 Tube Nutrical or Ferretvite (leave out if insulinomic...or
use 1/3 tube) 4 Tablespoons Honey......(cut back if insulinomic to two or
three)I went with one when Fang was coming out his diabetic condition.. I've read that the honey is really quite safe; much more so than the ferretvite or nutrical if insulinomic 1 Tablespoon olive oil 1 Tablespoon ferretone......(or whatever vitamin supplement,
you use 1 Cup fat trimmings......(uncooked; I just get it from the
butcher) |

That's it! Go buy it, have it chopped up by butcher, throw it in the crock pot with the
extra fat cubes (I like these small rather than huge), and the crushed up egg shells. Cover with water, which will become the broth that you will need for later. Bring it to a boil, lower, and low simmer for five or six hours. Go do something nice for yourself, then come back and throw in the cup of crushed kibble and the oatmeal for another half hour to one hour. No biggie. |

When all this is cooked (so far, easy does it), then go over to the sink with this crock pot
bowl. Have the blender right next to the sink. Scoop out about 2-3 cups of it (with some broth too) and put in blender. Put on chop for about one min. Then Puree...make sure all the little bones are ground up best you can. Now dump it from the blender into a colander which you place DIRECTLY OVER a large bowl in the sink. I use a rubber spatula to stir it around as it goes through the colander. Little bitty bones will be left...I scoop 'em out and throw away. Yuk. Then pour the next batch into the blender and repeat.
Now your big bowl in the sink should be full of yummy chicken gravy. POUR into ice cube trays....easy does it. Freeze; then put ice cubes into baggie to keep in the freezer. I use quart size zip locks....we take about five or six out at a time to keep in the fridge for an ongoing supply.
Even if you feed it to you kiddos every other day, it is SO GOOD for them, and they love it.
Warm it in the microwave to hot, but not too hot. Stir with your finger to make sure no hot
spots. Let them taste it off your finger first..it is so cute when
I sit Fang on my lap and put a little towel over his belly in case I drip it off my finger..
he HATES it when it spills on his tummy. |
